Dr. Md Saddam Hussain

Passionate about safer urban mobility and sustainable transportation, I started with a Bachelor's in Architecture from NIT Patna in 2010. I furthered my expertise with a Master's from RCG School of Infrastructure Design and Management in 2017, where my thesis focused on pedestrian trip rates in India's mixed traffic conditions. My Ph.D. at IIT Kharagpur, completed in June 2023, centered on innovative methods for assessing pedestrian safety. Now, as a Senior Research Associate at the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy, I am dedicated to promoting electric vehicle adoption in India. Let's connect and work together towards greener, safer cities!

Past Experience and Education

Currently, I am a Senior Research Associate at the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) in Delhi, focusing on the E-mobility sector for the past 1.5 years. My work involves developing and promoting energy-efficient technologies and policies to enhance sustainable mobility in India.
The Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) is a leading not-for-profit organization in India dedicated to advocating for energy efficiency as a resource. AEEE supports policy implementation, enables the energy efficiency market, and promotes data-driven, evidence-based research to foster sustainable energy practices across various sectors. Our mission is to drive energy efficiency initiatives to ensure India's sustainable and energy-secure future.

Doctor of Philosophy - PhD/ Senior Research Fellow (SRF),  Safe and Sustainable Transportation Planning
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT KGP)

June 2017 - December 2023

During my PhD at IIT Kharagpur, I specialized in Safe and Sustainable Transport Planning. My research focused on developing innovative methods to assess pedestrian safety in the context of India’s complex and mixed traffic conditions. This experience allowed me to explore practical solutions to enhance urban mobility while prioritizing safety and sustainability for all road users. My time at IIT KGP has equipped me with valuable skills and insights that I continue to apply my professional endeavors.

Master's in Technology - Infrastructure Design & Management
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT KGP)

August 2015 - June 2017

I completed my Master’s in Technology (MTech) at Ranbir and Chitra School of Infrastructure Design and Management (RCGSIDM), IIT Kharagpur, in 2017. This interdisciplinary program equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of infrastructure design, planning, and resource management through a diverse curriculum. Courses such as project management, financing infrastructure projects, regional analysis and planning, facility programming, and GIS provided me with a well-rounded experience in the field. My thesis focused on non-motorized transport infrastructure, specifically pedestrians, where I explored the strong relationship between land use types and pedestrians willingness to walk, identifying key elements that influence people's propensity to walk.

Bachealor's in Architecture (B. Arch)
National Institute of Technology Patna (NITP)

August 2010 - June 2015

I earned my B. Arch degree from NIT Patna in 2015, where I acquired expertise in diverse areas including building materials, architectural design, vernacular architecture, interior design, and urban planning. During my studies, I developed a strong interest in sustainable transportation, with a particular focus on Non-Motorized Transport (NMT). I explored how thoughtful design and planning can enhance road safety and create more comfortable spaces for NMT users.
